The Cult goddess of South India, Mariamman is extensively worshipped in areas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Singapore, Malaysia and parts of Australia. During the auspicious Aadi month, from time memorial, it was believe that the worship of Mata Mariamman is supposed to bring rains and cure various diseases like Chicken Pox, cholera etc.
This face is most dominantly used during Kavadi festival.
